Richard Todd dies at 90; British actor was Ian Fleming's first choice to play James Bond

Todd reenacted his World War II exploits in the film The Longest Day, played U.S. Senate chaplain Peter Marshall in A Man Called Peter and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in 1949's The Hasty Heart.

Richard Todd was writer Ian Fleming's first choice to play James Bond in 1962, but a schedule clash opened the way for Sean Connery to take the role and define it.
