2010 annual Kennedy Center Honorees named

The 33rd Kennedy Center honorees for lifetime contributions to American culture are: talk show host, producer and actress Oprah Winfrey, singer and songwriter Merle Haggard, former Beatle, singer and songwriter Paul McCartney, composer and lyricist Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly, Mame) and dancer choreographer Bill T. Jones.
They will be honored at a gala at the Kennedy Center on December 5.
Winfrey's immediate reaction to being named a Kennedy Center honoree supposedly was: "Wow-zee!" Paul McCartney, 68, paid tribute to the slain U.S. president for whom the Kennedy Center and its annual honors are named. "President Kennedy was such an icon for us in the Sixties, and his presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honor".
