Frank Capra's classic film It’s a Wonderful Life is a dark Christmas tale failed to draw much attention in 1946 and went home with a $525,000 deficit at the box office. In 1990 the Library of Congress

preserved the movie in the National Film Registry, citing it “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant." It’s a Wonderful Life had become one of the most beloved movies ever.
